AU hails Nigeria’s Super Falcons for 2016 Women’s Africa Cup victory

African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson  Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has congratulated Nigeria’s women’s soccer team, Super Falcons, for winning the 2015 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals on Saturday in Yaounde, Cameroon.

It is the tenth time that Nigeria has claimed this victory. Super Falcons claimed a 1-0 victory over hosts Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses at the final match in Yaounde.

Dr. Dlamini Zuma also commended runners-up for putting up a splendid performance.

In a statement issued by the AUC, the Chairperson equally congratulated the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the government and people of Cameroon, as well as all teams for the magnificent organisation and participation in the 2016 Edition of the African Women Cup of Nations.

“Sports events continue to unite the continent and embody aspirations 2 and 5 of Agenda 2063 which speak to an integrated Africa with a strong cultural identity, common heritage, values and ethics,” read the statement.
