A 31-year-old woman from Alkmaar has been jailed for three years, one suspended, for killing three of her babies. All three were born between 2007 and 2014.
The Dutch public prosecution department had earlier requested her to be jailed for 4 years and also place her on probation for 10 years.
News agency ANP reported that Yasmine M has been charged with the manslaughter of her three girls, hiding their bodies in Alkmaar and Heerhugowaard.
A sniffer dog found one of the bodies hidden in the attic of a house in Heerhugowaard, the second body was found in an outhouse, while the third body was found in a park in Alkmaar.
The court ruled that Yasmin M was fully accountable for the killing of baby Skye, who drowned in the bath at the age of around three days. However, given the other two babies were in such a severe state of decomposition when found, it could not be proven that M had also killed them, the court said.
In court Yasmin M told the court that she could not remember anything either of her being pregnant nor the deaths of the babies.
She was quoted as saying that she remembered one baby because she was afraid her pregnancy would be discovered.. ‘I think I must have done it,’ she said.
Media report said the other two babies might have been born while she was sitting on the toilet and left to drown.
She was reported to have undergone a psychiatric test which found her to be emotionally weak and of very low intelligence.
The public prosecution office said her evaluation indicate her likelihood of re-offending and must therefore undergo regular test to check whether or not she is pregnant on her release from jail.
Yasmine M has two other young sons that have been placed in custody.
