The latest report from the Dutch statistic bureau, CBS said 621 people were killed in road accidents in the country last year, a rise of 9% compared to the year before.
Since 1970 when road related deaths took 3,000 lives, it has been on yearly decline. Last year however was the first time the death toll from road deaths has gone up.
Out of the total 621 deaths last year, 225 were in a private car, while the number of cyclists killed remained stable at 185.
CBS said a total of 41 people got killed on a mobility scooter, a rise of 14 on the previous year. It also said the number of people over the age of 80 killed in a traffic accident went up sharply to 119 in the same period.
