Despite her age, an 89-year-old surgeon is still performing hundreds of operations a year.
Alla Illyinichna Levushkina works at a hospital in Russia where she carries out operations every day.
Levushkina who has worked as a surgeon for 67-years starts work every day at 8am So far, she has carried out more than 10,000 successful surgeries in her career.
Levushkina who is single is very proud of her record of absolutely no fatalities in her surgeries. She lives in a flat with eight of her cats and where she still cares for her disabled nephew.
She said: ‘I work and have nothing to do in retirement. Being a doctor is not just a profession but a way of life. Why else would the surgeon live, if not to work?’
Although, average Russians retire in their mid-fifties but Levushkina would have nothing to do with retirement. She’s the oldest surgeon still working in the world.
She said: ‘I don’t have any secret to longevity. I just eat everything, laugh a lot and cry a lot.
‘I work because it’s interesting to me, and also because I like to win. I like to help people achieve remissions.
‘There are people I saved many years ago when nobody else wanted to perform an operation on them. And I did that and they are still alive and have grown up children.’
